There have been more reports on the merger between Carbury and Monaghan in the national media in this past month.
Following information from the Donegal Creameries food group it is reported that the merger is expected to be completed very soon.
The merger is seen to be in response to both companies struggling with difficult trading conditions and is expected to produce a major European player within the mushroom market.
Fierce competition from Dutch and Polish mushroom producers had made consolidation inevitable according to Donegal MD John Keon.
Full details on the merger are expected to emerge soon – Mr Keon has confirmed that Donegal will retain a minority stake in the new entity.
Donegal owns slightly more that 51 per cent of Carbury – turnover within this stake declining from €11.2 million to €9.9 million over the first half of this year.
