Co. Monaghan grower Pat Tierney is very proud of son Darren who recently won the title of All-Ireland U-18 fishing champion.
Darren was competing in the fishing championship, which took place at Arvagh in Co. Cavan in late September.
If you google Darren's name one discovers that last year he was pulling in some big fish – 5th Annual Open Pike Angling Competition Rossmore park lakes, Monaghan:"Junior angler Darren Tierney had the 2nd biggest at 15lb 3oz" – that from the www.angling-in-ireland.com.
This year Darren managed to net the biggest catch of the day to win the All Ireland title.
Well done that lad – sure he can now tell stories about the one that didn't get away.
