We’ve had this before, but the saying goes that, if Candlemas (aka St Brigid’s Day or Imbolc) is bright and clear, there'll be two winters in the one year.
The beginning of February this year was sunny, bright and clear.
We certainly have had an easterly beastliness post Imbolc - and we had the cold snap at the start of January.
This ancient festival marks the midpoint of winter, halfway between the shortest day and the spring equinox.
But who knows if we're going to get two proper winters this year. Maybe we always do - at the start of the year and the end of the year. It’s hard to fault these old weather spakes!
