British farmers experienced one of their worst harvests on record last year according to government data. The poor harvest has added to fears about food security.
Data confirmed that the third lowest total production for wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape since national record keeping began in 1984, was experienced last year.
It was the second worst wheat harvest and the worst fro oilseed rape.
Tom Bradshaw, president of the NFU, called for changes to how farmers were paid for the food they produced. Defra meanwhile said that their commitment to farmers was steadfast.
