Our Californian correspondent was out in the Nevada Black Rock Desert at the Burning Man festival at the end of August.
Said undercover operative sent a photo of the giant metallic mushroom that was assembled on site and lit up at night.
There is a bit of veneration of the mushroom at the festival it would seem - in many guises. The vaguely countercultural festival is a highlight of the summer for many in the Golden State, and also for the very hip, Silicon Valley techies and assorted celebs from around the globe.
