Stalker notes that the IFA have produced some interesting budgetary proposals for the upcoming October budget in Ireland.
The IFA proposals include a fund similar to the Horticulture Crisis Fund of 2023 to be set up to help alleviate the worst of the inflationary costs affecting all soft fruit and mushroom growers.
Also they have proposed the setting up of a Spent Mushroom Compost scheme to enhance circular economy practices in the sector. It all sounds eminently sensible, and to the combined tune of €17 million not unreasonable, however with all the demands on the upcoming budgetary pot it is highly unlikely that everything will get funded.
