Hot weather in August pointed to a bumper strawberry crop
Despite a mixed summer for sunshine, UK supermarkets were talking of an ‘exceptional’ period for the fruit. There was talk of roughly an extra 40 to 50 tonnes of strawberries harvested per week until the end of August in the UK.
Mansfields, the fruit grower, said despite cloudy skies, the quality of strawberries growing was “very good”, with the conditions meaning the fruit had been given more time to develop.
