In the UK June was cooler than average, with temperatures in the first two weeks roughly 2°C below average.
The cool start to the month was due to northerly and northwesterly winds bringing cold Arctic air across the UK. All four territories ended the month with mean temperatures less than a degree below average.
Met Éireann said the average temperature for June in Ireland was 13.18C, making it the coldest June here since 2015.
However, the average global temperature last month was warmer than any previous June on record, according to a new report from the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service.
