Wonky veg is back in the news as weather hits harvests. This time it is the Dutch who are seemingly acquiring the taste for the misshapen produce.
The wet spring has caused more “imperfect” fruit and vegetables, which get rejected by a food system based on standardisation and appearance. A Dutch farmer has launched a social business called No Waste Army to supply food boxes made up with perfectly good, but rejected fruit and veg.
Expect more of the same in the UK and Ireland this year after the vagaries of the spring and summer weather conditions.
