The Agricultural Science Association in Ireland has said that the introduction of ‘multiple land-use policies’ is creating huge uncertainty in the rural economy and threatens a decline in it. Food production could be squeezed putting the €14 billion agricultural exports economy under pressure.
New land use rules included a reduction in the use of nitrates and conversion of land to provide solar farms.
An uncertain future is always a given, but policies enacted today will have potentially dramatic effects down the line.
