Finnish scientists have identified Fomes fomentarius, a.k.a hoof fungus as a potential gamechanger in the search for replacing plastics.
While the mushroom takes seven to 10 years to grow to a significant size in the wild, the researchers think that in a lab setting, they could produce plenty of it within a matter of weeks.
F. fomentarius could include things ranging from shock-absorption materials, heat, and sound insulation, and even consumer product parts.
