A report in the Irish Farmers Journal recently highlighted some of the problems facing the Northern Sector of the industry.
It reported that lack of financial support and problems retaining workers were two main issues raised by growers in a meeting with Stormont MLAs, according to the piece.
“I am seriously having to look at setting up in the south of Ireland because of the lack of support and the visa situation in the north,” said John McArdle from the NI Mushroom Growers Association.
The situation must be pretty dire when a northern grower moots the idea of a flit across the border to solve all his problems.
