Last month was the warmest May on record according to Met Eireann.
The average temperature was 13.08 degrees, a full 1.74 degrees higher than the long term average for the month of May. Apparently there were no air frosts during the month, and all available monthly sunshine totals were below their longtime averages.
May 2024 was summarised as calm, dull and thundery at times according to the Met Eireann monthly report.
We pitched into cooler air at the start of June, when it got downright wintery at times. Weird weather indeed.
As the month ends though we have hit some heat at last - with temps in Northern Ireland hitting 25C in Castlderg in Co. Tyrone, and hitting 26.7C in Phoenix Park in Dublin.
