Sterling surged to its highest level against the euro in almost two years in early June after the EU elections and Emmanuel Macron’s surprise decision to call a snap poll in France.
A pound would buy €1.18 or conversely the euro was worth 84.5p.
At one point the pound surged to €1.19 before falling back slightly.
