“April brings the sweet spring showers, on and on for hours and hours. Farmers fear unkindly May, frost by night and hail by day.”

That line from the Flanders and Swann song called A Song of the Weather doesn’t quite catch the mood of this year, after the deluges of recent months.

Mind you there was an odd frost in May, before the warmer weather landed.
