The world experienced its warmest March on record which is alarming climate scientists. The El Nino effect was a contributing factor this year according to the meteorologists, and that effect is waning, but there is an El Nina around the corner.
Don’t ask Stalker to delineate between these distinct but linked weather phenomena. Needless to say we will no doubt face more climate disruption ahead - let’s just hope though that the pace of change is not as rapid as latest data suggests.
Here in Ireland the rain as ever is a feature, and April showers of hail and cold northerly winds certainly do not make us feel like we are experiencing warming.
But the excess rainfall of the past half year does seem to be correlated with warming global conditions and significant rises in sea temperatures in the North Atlantic.
Subjectively the wind this year has also been quite abnormal - that too perhaps is a feature of global warming - but historically we have faced long spells like this before.
