In the light of the recent brouhaha around mushrooms and the medium they grow in, it’s interesting to note that the industry worldwide is focussing in on the subject more and more.
At the recent NAMC conference in Las Vegas one of the first scientific talks at the event was entitled - Non-peat Casing Materials for Mushroom production – A Systematic Review by Gabrielle Young.
Also up for discussion at the event was The Potential of Wood-Based Products as Alternative Components in Mushroom Casing by Teagasc’s Dr. Eoghan Corbett.
Research has been ongoing down the years and as ever with the white-coated boffins, they are continually coming up with novel and resourceful ideas on all aspects of mushroom cultivation.
It is also heartening to know that Irish scientists are at the forefront of the research.
