Stalker was interested to read an article recently on how to beat the middle-age spread, and what to do after 50. Number 6 on the list of things to was 6. Eat more mushrooms.
The item continued thus: “Mushrooms contain an array of B vitamins, vitamin D, potassium, chloride, copper and selenium — nutrients that are lacking in many UK diets. They also contain valuable amounts of fibre, which is important for digestion, maintaining gut health and making you feel full. “There is a type of soluble fibre called beta-glucans in mushrooms that can help to reduce appetite and increase feelings of fullness,” Brecher says. “They are a great aid to weight loss.” Any variety will do. When participants in a study published in the journal Appetite were asked to consume two 226g servings of button mushrooms a day, they reported feeling significantly less hungry, and ate less in the hours after eating the mushrooms, compared with those who were asked to eat two 26g servings of meat.”
All very sensible and all very good promotion for the fresh produce.
The top advice was to eat fermented foods such as yoghurt, miso and kimchi. That seems to be a very current fave in health circles.
If you too want to look like Liz Hurley - then that's the advice!
