Stalker was interested to note a piece on seasonal affective disorder in TheTelegraph recently - looking at how to ward off the seasonal blues. Top of the list of advice was vitamin D-rich mushrooms.
“There is evidence to suggest a correlation between low levels of vitamin D and SAD. This makes sense given that our bodies mainly produce vitamin D when skin is exposed to sunshine, so most of us don’t get enough vitamin D in winter. The NHS recommends that all adults take a vitamin D supplement in autumn and winter. Vitamin D is also present in a few foods, such as oily fish (which also contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for overall brain health), mushrooms and eggs. So, give yourself an additional boost by making a smoked mackerel, mushroom and spinach omelette for breakfast."
The other advice was get your magnesium in and eat foods with loads of tryptophan - found in turkey and eggs.
