October 2023 was the wettest month on record in County Armagh, breaking the previous record set in 1870, according to the Armagh Observatory. Ireland and the UK have pretty much been deluged in heavy rainfall the recent period. Extreme flooding events seem to be getting more common, with storms that unload more and more rain.
Storm Ciarán which affected Southern England, the Channel Islands and France most severely brought windspeeds of over 100mph. Coastal erosion damage in those locales is said to have amounted to 5 years worth in just one day. More recently, Storm Debi brought a lot of wind damage with it.
Across in Mexico, wind speeds during Hurricane Otis which hit there, were recorded at 165 mph - that’s close to a record for planet Earth. Meanwhile in Panama the country is experiencing severe drought - enough so that it is affecting transit through the famous canal.
Climate related anomalies are multiplying rapidly it would seem.
