Stalker’s eye was drawn to the sandwich immediately - it looked very meaty, very moresome, very mouth-watering. The sandwich in question is sold in the food hall in Harrods, in Knightsbridge, London. Wagyu beef and truffle butter - what’s not to like. Then the price tag - £28 - for a sarnie! It’s two slices of fresh sourdough, “gold” mustard mayo, mushrooms and Japanese seared steak. Yes the ingredients don’t come cheap -Wagyu beef can only come from three breeds of cattle from Japan’s Kasai region and is sometimes referred to as the Rolls-Royce of beef. Black truffle costs about £1.50 to £3 a gram. The bread apparently takes days to ferment and prove and is baked on site. The mushroom is a grilled portobello, and there’s porcini mushrooms in the truffle butter too. It certainly beats a McDonalds burger into a cocked hat.
