Demand for new cars in the UK has overtaken pre-pandemic levels, prompting the industry body to upgrade its sales forecasts for this year and next.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said that 153,529 new cars had been registered last month, an increase of 14 per cent year-on-year and up 7 per cent on 2019 levels.
The data also suggests that the UK PM’s decision to delay a proposed ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars has stalled the advance of electric vehicles.
