Globally this September was the hottest ever recorded.
Meanwhile,Northern Ireland experienced its joint warmest September on record this year. This has primarily been attributed to temperatures at the start of the month. The average temperature of 14.2°C for September 2023 matches previous records set in 2006 and 2021, which is a notable 1.6°C above the normal monthly average.
England however had its warmest ever September on record.
This September was the hottest on record in England in a series dating back to 1884, the Met Office has said.
September was the joint-hottest on record in the UK, tying with 2006, with a mean temperature of 15.2C.
The Met Office said statistics on rising temperatures had been “substantially influenced” by the impact of climate change. A heatwave in early September brought the year’s hottest day, with temperatures reaching 33.2C at London’s Kew Gardens.
The temperatures for October have also been high, we are sure to see more of the heating trend when those values are announced.
