Media reports emanating from Australia indicate that there has been a fall in fresh mushroom sales in the country following the toxic mushroom related deaths reported on last month.
Anecdotally at least, mushroom growers are reporting a dip in demand. They’re not sure if it is related to the tragic deaths after a family meal in Leongatha, however the dip in sales is very noticeable.
That story is set to run and run - but no doubt the agri-PR people will be stressing the difference between commercially produced fresh mushrooms and the toxic type of foraged fungi allegedly involved in the deadly family meal.
