UK Inflation slowed to 6.8 percent in July, it was reported. Lower gas and electricity prices drove the headline rate down, but underlying price pressures didn’t quite fall as much as expected.
Food price rises also slowed in July, although fresh food inflation was running at 14.3 percent, down from 15.7 percent in June.
Meanwhile, in the eurozone, headline inflation has halved over the last nine months. Annual consumer prices growth in the single currency bloc fell to 5.3 per cent - down from 10.6 percent last October.
There’s still plenty of inflation heat in the economy, with food, and fresh food especially ,still being at the sharp end of the price pain.
