Stalker’s eye was attracted to a large item in Woman’s Weekly magazine recently. The piece was entitled “The Secret of Healthier Veg” looking at the best ways to prepare your veg and what is better eaten raw, versus better eaten cooked. Mushrooms came in under the cooked category.
“ Cooking these makes them easier to digest, and it can make them safer to eat too, as mushrooms can contain hazardous toxins that can be killed by heat. Scientists in Spain looked at the best way to cook them to preserve nutrients, and found grilling or microwaving came out top.”
Hmmm, Stalker was slightly flabbergasted to read that. For sure there are wild varieties of mushrooms that contain toxins that can be deactivated by proper cooking.
But this piece didn’t quite manage to state that. Your average punter reading that piece might take it the wrong way.
A promotional push with a hint of poisoning - not quite the message the industry would like to convey!
