So it seems as if bird flu has flown, but a new hazard on the horizon is dog flu.
Stalker read a report on the avian influenza H3N2 which first established itself in the canine population in 2006 apparently.
Scientists fear that this strain of influenza is slowly mutating to a point where it will leap from dogs to man. Bird flu has never shown an ability to sustain transmission from person to person, however this new strain of H3N2 is showing an ability to recognise human receptor cells according to a new research study out of the China Agricultural University.
Watch this space, but don’t be alarmed just yet. It could be all a shaggy dog story, perhaps.
