There was an interesting article in Mushroom Business February edition 117 about the re-emergence of MVX - mushroom virus X - in mushroom growing ventures in Europe.
In January 2023 the plant virology department at Wageningen University & Research was no longer able to accept new samples as they lacked the capacity to test any more mushrooms.
A sure sign of how much MVX has re-appeared.
MVX causes a disastrous effect on mushroom production, with virtually no mushrooms appearing on beds in the first flush, and with the second flush cooked out as a precautionary measure.
Of course Ireland has expertise in MVX research too, at Teagasc. No doubt we will be hearing more on the re-emergence of the mysterious Virus X over the year ahead.
