Stalker noted that the well-known mushroom consultant Ray Samp had an article on the peat crisis in the US mushroom industry in the November issue of the Mushroom Biz magazine.
Ray is also well known in these parts and always writes in the most cogent and readable fashion.
Looking at the alternatives to 100 percent casing, he outlines the recent US experience of needs-must in the industry, with the myriad of alternatives and additional materials used to make viable casing soil. Hydra-fibre was considered a good potential candidate, composed of processed pine bark and wood. Pittmoss, basically recycled cardboard, was another candidate.
The item was a very interesting read and shows how necessity is the mother of invention and innovation.
