One of the words of the year chosen by a leading dictionary is the newly coined noun permacrisis.
That’s quite a good neologism to sum up the sentiment of this past year.
Another nice word that was coined just recently by a renowned group of scientists is a ronnagram - not as one might think a pleasant telegram from a mushroom magnate - but a measure of weight. The Earth weighs six ronnagrams.
Ronna now denotes a billion billion billion, and a quetta is a thousand times larger than a ronna.
At the smaller scale the new word to look out for is a ronto - a billionth of a billionth of a billionth, and a quecto, which is a thousand times smaller.
Those are all now ratified by the International System of Units (SI).
There you have it, a few new words to conjure with over the festive period and maybe lay down on a Scrabble board and start an argument. Good luck.
