Apparently climate change is affecting the precious truffle harvest in Europe and experts say that the pungent tuber is at risk of vanishing.
Droughts and heatwaves are having a deleterious effect on the truffle harvests, causing prices to soar - white truffles are now trading at €600 a kilo, more than 50 percent above the previous average price.
Researchers have discovered that truffles are extremely sensitive to heat fluctuations and that production of the Burgundy summer truffle for instance fell by 22 per cent for every centigrade rise above the average.
