“Mushrooms Are Being Recalled Nationwide” is not the type of headline anyone in the mushroom industry wants to read.
Thankfully this is not the situation here, nor is it to do with regular commercially grown crops where the recall is happening. In the USA there's been an outbreak of listeria in enoki mushrooms which is being investigated by the CDC. There always seems to be listeria warnings around this particular variety of mushrooms in the US, but the recent outbreak seems to be much wider and hitting the news more. When the CDC gets involved you know it's getting more serious.
One report this month states that enoki mushrooms were the most recalled food item this year!
Let's hope they find the cause of the recent outbreak of contamination, and we’ll see the headlines subside.
