Reading the editorial in the Mushroom Biz magazine the editor paints a pretty grim picture for the mushroom industry in Holland at the moment.
He points to soaring inflation, rising labour costs and huge price hikes for energy as the main causative factors in rendering mushroom growing much less profitable.
And with all this following years of negative pressure on mushroom growers it’s no wonder the prognosis is gloomy.
The same causative factors are affecting different industries all over Europe.
The Irish mushroom industry is not immune to these factors too, and adding in the peat supply crisis to the mix only makes matters worse.
