While perusing the Mushroom Business Magazine Stalker was struck by the similarity between the giant mushroom structures in Almere in the Netherlands, and scenes from the last edition of the BBC’s blockbuster sci-fi show Dr Who.
The Mycelium Parc in Almere, constructed as part of the Floriade horticultural expo - the largest in the world apparently - is made of a mycelium facade and other bio-based materials. Visitors to the park could get “the feel of how a circular CO2 -neutral city building can contribute to a planet friendly future,” according to the report.
The giant fungal effigies in the park reminded Stalker of a seminal scene in Dr Who where the Master is marooned on a new planet with giant ominous mushrooms on its surface.
Funny how the mushrooms seemed malevolent and sinister in this context, but protective ( like large parasols) and beneficial in the Mycelium Parc in Almere.
