This was the driest July in more than 20 years in Northern Ireland, with just over 50% of the normal monthly rainfall. July was also dull with the fewest hours of strong sunshine for 29 years.
In Ireland Met Eireann reported that all monthly rainfall totals across the country were below their 1981-2010 Long-Term Average. While nearly all available sunshine totals were below their LTA.
Of course in the UK they had their driest July since 1935, combined with the record breaking temperatures, the drought warnings as we headed into August soon came to pass.
