The KPMG report “Opportunities for the Irish Horticulture Sector” was launched by Minister with responsibility for Horticulture Pippa Hackett on the 13th July. The report indicates that domestic peat will be needed in the medium term for the continuation of the Irish mushroom industry - no surprise there.
The report also suggests that for Ireland to become a sustainable global leader in mushroom products, the industry will have to prioritise its environmental footprint, its production system evolution and its research and development initiatives into the future.
There’s some analysis from the report included elsewhere in this issue - it makes for interesting reading..
