Depending on where one is living in the UK or Ireland, it has been a summer of two halves so far. High temperatures in the southern and eastern regions, while more northerly and westerly regions have been wondering where the heat might be coming from.
Then on July 19th London broke records with a temperature of 40.2 C recorded at Heathrow. Following hot on its heels, the UK recorded its hottest-ever temperature, on the same day, with 40.3C recorded in Coningsby in Lincolnshire.
Ireland meanwhile recorded its highest ever temperature for July with 33C being recorded at the Met Eireann Phoenix Park weather station in Dublin. Wales and Scotland also recorded their highest ever temperatures.
