You know things are getting a bit weird when the guy who created the weather maps for the UK Met Office says he never expected the deep reds to show on the map for the UK.
Aidan Mc Givern, a senior weather presenter at the Met Office, used social media to explain a recent redesign of the forecasters maps.
“When we designed the new colours in autumn 2021, only parts of the Middle East and North Africa were above 39C. I thought these temperatures would turn up occasionally in Spain in the summer. I never expected them to appear on UK maps.”
The Red Heat Alert issued by the Met Office in the UK this month was the first ever.
Apparently we can expect more of these in the years ahead.
