The old St Swithin guard were watching out for rain on July 15th. Depending where you were in the country it was mostly dry.
However, more northern and westerly areas did get a good touch of rain in the early part of the day.
The UK Met Office blog stated a few years ago that: “Since the start of records in 1861, there has never been a record of 40 dry or 40 wet days in a row following St Swithin’s Day.” That seems pretty definitive.
Although Stalker has an inkling that locally in Northern Ireland at least, there was a period of 40 days of continuous rain after St Swithin's sometime in the past two decades. One will have to go back and check the notes!
