There was a report in the media this month that Irish vegetables were the ‘worst in EU’ for pesticide residue.
A Brussels campaign group called Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe said that Irish fruit and veg is likely to contain residues of substances that are hazardous to health and the environment.
The Irish Department of Agriculture said that the European Commission had claimed that Pan Europe's analysis is misleading.
“If the residue is below the existing maximum residue level then there is no health risk”, it said. Let’s hope so.
