The mushroom industry in Poland has lost a lot of workers due to the conflict in Ukraine. According to Dr Krystian Szyduga of the Polish Mushroom Association, many Ukrainian men who worked on Polish Mushroom farms have left to return to their country in order to fight in the war there.
Poland produces 300,000 tonnes of mushrooms every year, making it the largest producer of fresh mushrooms in Europe.
The industry in Poland is also experiencing dramatic surges in costs in all other inputs as well.
The inflation rate as one gets closer to the theatre of war is greater than in more outlying regions of Europe and the rest of the world.
