Stalker spotted a couple of mushroom items for the barbecue this summer, and they happen to be vegan also, which is all the rage. Waitrose Plant-Living Spanish Style no chorizo whirls - £ 3.25 for three.
“ Spicy smoky sausage made with mushrooms, roasted red peppers, garlic and chilli.” Ingredients include 44 percent mushroom, red pepper and onion, with pea fibre and starch.
M&S Plant Kitchen vegan steak burgers, £5 for two. The burgers have coarse shiitake mushroom and pea protein in it. There’s 12 percent shitake, 10 percent pea protein, and some soy protein isolate.
These burgers get 10 out of 10 in a taste test - with impressive fat patties, strong savoury flavour and a pleasing texture. Hard to beat that recommendation - they’ll be going on the barbie this summer!
