The British and Irish strawberry season has arrived early this year due to the sunny April that we experienced.
And the crop should be all the sweeter for it too, thanks to all that early sunshine. And word is the harvest is up by nearly half as well.
The delicious fruit ripened under the 166 hours of sunshine during April, which was 7 per cent better than average according to British Summer Fruits, an industry body.
Last year cold weather delayed the crop until June. The strawberry industry is worth more than £769 million to the British economy, according to Kantar figures. Here’s hoping it’ll be a fabulous year for the tennis season and the strawberries and cream too!
