There's an index called the automation risk index (ARI) which takes into account how many aspects of a job can be done by a robot.
Almost 1000 jobs were put through the analysis for the index and the results seemed to indicate that there aren’t many robot-proof careers out there. Physicists and neurologists seem to be the clearest winners in avoiding automation in the future. Most likely roles to be lost include packers and packagers, cleaners and food preparation workers.
In the mushroom industry we already know there’s a drive on to replace the human element as much as possible - Stalker can envisage a time when the mushroom farm becomes like an Amazon ‘fulfilment centre’ - inimical to human presence.
That could be a sad vista for the future of the industry too.
