Russia is a major exporter of wood pellets burned by biomass boilers. UK importers have been scrambling since the start of the war in Ukraine to find alternative supplies.
Prices in the UK and Europe are thought to have risen by between 25 and 40 percent. Mark Lebus, chairman of the UK Pellet Council (who knew that such a body existed) said the sector was working on immediate and alternative measures to restructure its global supply chain, working with overseas partners to help ensure a continuous supply of biomass wood pellets for UK customers.”
