News of a new world record holder from New Zealand in the spud world, previously reported in this column, now seems to be in doubt.
It would appear that Guinness World Records, having analysed Doug the spud from New Zealand, have found that it is in fact a tuber of a gourd. The findings mashed Kiwi hopes of having the world’s biggest potato.
That accolade still resides with Nottinghamshire grower Peter Glazebrook, who’s record breaker weighed in at 10lb 140z in September 2011.
