Demand for truffles has never been higher, but supply of the fungal delicacy has been threatened anew by cases of African swine fever in truffling pigs in the Piedmont region of Italy.
The disease discovery has put paid to hiking , biking, mushroom collecting and truffle hunting in Piedmont and Liguria. Entry to the woods has been forbidden.
Also the pig industry in Italy is on high alert following the discovery of the African strain of swine fever.
