Electric and plug -in vehicles now account for over 15 per cent of new car sales in Ireland according to figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).
Total new car sales were 19 per cent on the previous year too, which is a heartening economic sign.
With the targets set for electric cars to be 1 million on the road by 2030, there’s a long way to go yet.
Meanwhile in the UK a fifth of all cars sold in the month of November were zero-emission vehicles. At least 20,000 were sold in November and 32,000 were sold in September.
It seems to show the trend and direction of travel.
Pure electric vehicles are now outselling diesel vehicles by two to one.
