Kiwi couple, Colin and Donna Craig-Brown, were gardening when Colin’s hoe struck something large in the soil.

The couple knelt  and began excavating the object believing it to be a giant puffball. But no!

They hoked out possibly the largest potato on record weighing in at 7.8kg or 17 lbs.

The New Zealand couple named their find Doug - geddit!

The record to date has been held by a potato dug up in Britain in 2011 which weighed in at just under 5kg.
