A blend of three mushrooms may dose-dependently increase levels of beneficial bacteria in the gut and increase levels of the short chain fatty acid butyrate, says a new study.
Scientists from Maastricht University and Keller Consulting group studied the effect of a blend of three mushrooms -Ganoderma lucidum, Grifola frondosa, and Pleurotus ostreatus - on gut microbiota composition and activity.
According to the results, future research on the mushroom blend is warranted, as the effects of butyrate is considered to be one of the microbial metabolites that contributes to health, by increasing barrier function and modulating inflammation.
